Museum Project
Museum of Sub-Carpathian Jewry
Plans are underway to establish a Museum of Sub-Carpathian Jewry in Berehove (Beregszász), to memorialize the Jewish population and their contributions to pre and post-war Sub-Carpathia, Ukraine.
Our plan is to advertise and canvass the residents of Sub-Carpathia today, for items left behind by the Jews after the deportations in 1944 and by any survivors who emigrated, post-1945. This includes religious items found in former synagogues, prayer houses, private homes in the cities, towns and villages of Sub-Carpathia.
Realizing that your ancestors may have sent items abroad that may still be your possession, we would ask your consideration to donating items from your Jewish Sub-Carpathian family, to memorialize your family that once lived here.
If anyone has something of interest, please contact us with a full description of the item(s) for mailing or shipping information.
Progress of the work on the museum:
- Space has been allocated for the museum in the second floor of the synagogue.
- Space has been allocated for a computer room and a place for the museum monitor.
- Museum is fully operational now with many interesting items on display.
- Photos of the museum are presented below.
- Additional updates to follow...
